Selecting Truck Mud Tires for Off-Road Adventures
If you will be taking your truck off-road, you will need the right truck mud tires. You cannot use passenger tires off-road as they simply do not offer the traction or performance. If you tried, you would likely find yourself getting stuck in a hurry. There are many hazards that you will encounter when driving off road. In addition to mud, there are rocks, sticks and other debris that your tires may come in contact with. Not only is the terrain treacherous, it is often uneven. Another use of mud tires is to provide stability on uneven terrain and keep the truck upright.
When buying this type of tire, important considerations are height and traction. Taller tires offer good clearance to protect the differential and chassis. As opposed to a tall tire, a wide tire offers stability and helps keep your vehicle upright. The key is to find the perfect balance of width and height to provide for good clearance and good stability at the same time. You will also want to pay close attention to the tread of your tires. Good tread prevents slipping, skidding and sliding in hazardous conditions.
Mud tires aren't just for mud, either. They are ideal for use on gravel roads and snowy conditions. Therefore, you may want to consider them for your truck even if you don't do a lot of off-road driving. You should know that these tires are not recommended for rainy conditions, however. They do not have enough grip to designate them as safe for slick, wet roads. If you will be driving your truck on the highway most of the time you should go for a pair of light-truck tires or even passenger tires.
The only time you should seriously consider purchasing truck mud tires is if you are spending the majority of your driving time off road. Many different tire manufacturers make tires for this very purpose. You will find off road tires made by giants of the industry such as Goodyear and Michelin. You will also find lesser known brands being sold in stores. This means your choices are quite varied when it comes to the type and price of your off road mud tires. If you are looking for a bargain you may want to go with a lesser known brand of mud tires as long as they meet your specifications.
